Bayside City Council Church St Precinct Signage

Bayside City Council Church St Precinct Signage

The Church Street precinct in Melbourne’s beachside suburb of Brighton is a shopping, dining and business hub just minutes from the beach. Its selection of over 200 retailers and eateries is a drawcard for locals and visitors alike, attracting plenty of custom throughout the year.

When Bayside City Council observed that despite there being numerous parking facilities within walking distance of the precinct’s main thoroughfare, congestion on Church Street as visitors slowed in search of a parking bay was problematic. They knew they wanted a green, future-focused solution that contributed to the quality of life of its community and revitalised precinct activity.

That’s when parking industry experts, Duncan Solutions and Park Agility put their heads together to deliver a dynamic, smart city solution incorporating sensors, wayfinding, and precinct signage that reduces traffic stress and congestion, acts as a gateway to Bayside and positions Brighton as an easy destination to visit and enjoy.

Working closely with Council’s traffic engineers, Park Agility used their experience to provide a tailored signage solution that would better manage precinct traffic diversions prior to arrival on busy Church Street. Using a total of ten dynamic wayfinding signs, drivers are guided around the main road with clear indication of the number and location of available parking bays in the precinct. In addition to easing traffic, this ensures surrounding parking facilities are being optimised.

Responding to Council’s community consultation process, the design of the signage was adjusted to align with public feedback and the aesthetic of the surrounding area. In addition, each of the ten wayfinding signs are powered exclusively by solar, to meet with Council’s green technology initiatives.

In real time, Park Agility’s SenseIQ precinct signage server collects data from the bay sensors provided by Duncan Solutions, sharing accurate and up to date parking guidance information with motorists. This allows drivers to locate an available parking space confidently and quickly, reducing circling, congestion and emissions. It also offers a vastly improved customer experience within the popular Church Street precinct to encourage return visits.

This parking guidance system can also be tailored when required to respond to changing traffic zones and parking limits. For example, should a section of the precinct be deemed a loading zone between certain hours, outside of these times the space can be programmed to be added to the available parking tally that is displayed. This ensures parking facility management is streamlined and parking income is optimised in a high-demand area.

    Waverley Council Wayfinding Signage

    Waverley Council Wayfinding Signage

Waverley Council had an existing system of inground sensors and precinct signage that required an upgrade to more reliable technology. Council operates five open air car parks in the area – three at Bondi Beach, one in Victoria St, Bondi and another in Bronte.

Working alongside Duncan Solutions who installed over 850 ground-based sensors across the five locations, Park Agility have installed six (6) wayfinding signs (including one solar powered) along Campbell Parade, the Bondi beach front; another in Victoria St and one at Bronte Cutting. All signs are designed to receive data from the in-ground sensors and display parking availability and directional signage to beachgoers, tourists, and locals in the busy Bondi area.

The signs are mounted on light poles to take advantage of existing infrastructure and run off the power within them. In Bondi the streetlights are on timed power which controls the whole suburb, so to ensure the signs would also display during the day our electrical team implemented a battery that fits inside the signs and charges overnight when the power is on. In the evening, the signs run off the mains power to the streetlights and during the day, the signs run off the battery that has been charged overnight.

This use of existing infrastructure is cost effective, minimises disruption to the local area and avoids the time delays often associated with connecting new signs to the grid.

Complementing this project, Park Agility made upgrades to the existing sign we supplied on Hollywood Ave. This precinct sign continues to identify the number of available parking bays in the Hollywood Ave and Eastgate Shopping Centre carparks. By adding a panel to the sign, a third occupancy panel shares an aggregate of the availability at the Bondi Beach carparks. In addition, an information panel can now display COVID updates, daily parking rates (early bird, weekend rates etc) or any other localised Council announcements. The information panel is easily updated as needed and provides additional information to the public.

By continuing to utilise up to date, accurate and reliable technology, Waverley Council optimise their assets by addressing the parking pain points in one of Sydney’s busiest areas and enhance the customer experience of visitors to the area.

      Northern Hospital Staff Car Park

      Northern Hospital Staff Car Park

The Northern Hospital is a public health provider in Melbourne’s outer north. It has 400 beds and serves the surrounding Melbourne suburbs as well as parts of country Victoria.

To improve the staff parking facilities, the State government appointed Kane Constructions to design and construct a new multi-deck car park. Featuring 6 levels and over 1100 parking bays, the new facility allows staff to park quickly and conveniently, particularly during shift change periods, ensuring they are not late to start work or having to park far away from their workplace.

Park Agility worked with the Kane Constructions team to install signage and area counting, providing accurate bay availability information to staff on arrival. With count points at entry and exit points on each level using magnetic induction loops to track vehicle movements and update the SenseIQ management system. Count points have been configured to respond to varying driving patterns and behaviours to ensure accurate data is collected. The SenseIQ management system then sends regular updates to wayfinding signage.

The car park has signage on each level advising drivers of parking availability on the levels above, as well as an entry sign that can be seen before entering the facility, allowing drivers to see immediately on which level available parking bays are located.

A cost-effective parking system for tax payers, that saves time for frontline workers and reduces circling, stress and congestion, ensuring a smooth start to each shift.

        Home HQ

        Home HQ

When it feels like home to park

If you've ever shopped in a home centre you know that wrangling large and heavy purchases to your car isn't fun. Less fun when the centre is near a major transport route and hospital and prime car spaces are taken by non-customers or staff.

Home HQ Artamon car park is 434 bays across 3 levels. Bay availability was often compromised by overstays. Park Agility’s project lead, Tony Johnson, consulted closely with the Home HQ centre management team on solutions including a parking guidance solution, a change in traffic flow and more aisle signage to direct traffic. Installation was seamless with no interruption to car park operations or store revenue.

"Projects like this one can often be very drawn out process impacting negatively on the retail centre in a number of ways. Thankfully this was not our experience."

Car park overstays are now managed effortlessly as the individual bay, Easy Guide sensors change from red to white when a car overstays a specified time.   Overstays and other useful data about customer parking behaviour is conveyed real-time to Centre Management through the SenseIQ Management System.  The SenseIQ data also revealed negatively impacting staff parking behaviours. For the first time Centre Management had measurable data on issues that they could now manage.

"We have had many positive comments from visitors to Home HQ…it makes their Home HQ overall shopping experience a better one."

          Norton Plaza

          Norton Plaza

Any parent knows that childcare drop-off/pick-up is not always smooth sailing

Norton Plaza at Leichhardt, is a high performing neighbourhood shopping centre anchored by a full line Coles supermarket, Harris Farm and All About Children childcare centre.

Located in a popular entertainment precinct the Norton Street entrance was frequently congested, impacting traffic flow on a major road. It was frustrating for Norton Plaza customers, annoying for through traffic and the last thing a Dad needs after a long day at work and having picked up a tired, hungry child from childcare.

The owners of Norton Plaza identified the problem as a barrier to efficiency and customer preference.
The strategic decision to install parking guidance has alleviated congestion and created a more positive shopping experience for customers using the 330 bay public parking asset.

A smart move to reserve ‘parent parking’ bays has also made life easier for parents or carers with little ones in the childcare centre. During morning Drop Off & Afternoon Pick Up times, amber-coloured parking guidance lights easily identify ‘parent parking’ bays. The bays are conveniently located near the main entry enabling a quicker drop-off/pick-up process. The 15 minute timed amber sensors also reduce parking frustration for other customers who can easily see what bays are and are not available to them. Outside of the designated Pick Up & Drop Off times these bays return to Green retail parking bays.

A simple parking guidance solution for customers and clients. A safer space for the kids.

            Casuarina Square Shopping Centre

            Casuarina Square Shopping Centre

Casuarina Square is owned and managed by The GPT Group, one of the largest owners, managers and developers of retail assets in Australia. Home to over 200 stores, Casuarina Square is the number one shopping, dining and entertainment destination in the Northern Territory. Casuarina includes two discount department stores, two supermarkets, a variety of specialty stores and an entertainment leisure precinct with a cinema offer.

The GPT group approached us with a project to maximise the availability of their parking, accommodate more customers and deliver a premium shopping experience for Darwin.

The car parking facilities comprise over 2,450 bays with more than 1,500 under cover bays, however the prime parking bays were taken by staff, local workers and commuters on a daily basis. This heavily impacted the availability and turnover of parking bays, resulting in an often poor customer experience. This would increase particularly in peak periods where customers could circle the facility looking for available parking bays causing congestion and frustration. Nearby accommodation buildings, clubs, offices and a bus interchange were also a contributing factor to a significant overstay challenge with a large percentage of bays not available to the shopping public.  Another challenge was the existence of restricted heights in the undercover parking areas.

The GPT Group’s chosen solution was the installation of Park Agility’s Parking Guidance Solution (PGS) with streamlined infrastructure and in particular, minimal height dynamic signage capabilities. This also allowed GPT to successfully implement timed parking across key areas to maximise efficiency and availability of parking spaces as well as signage indicating location and number of available parking spaces in each car park. Improve traffic flow and the introduction of over 150 wayfinding signs.

Thanks to our highly efficient installation method plus highly competent team, Park Agility was able to complete the project inside 11 weeks; commissioning the system in November 2018. Since installation, Casuarina Square has received considerable positive feedback with parking customers now able to find an available car parking bay within minutes of entering the facility. Traffic flow has been vastly optimised saving time, fuel and reducing congestion.

              Marina Square Shopping Centre

              Marina Square Shopping Centre

Marina Square is a two-level shopping centre that sits at the base of an 800-apartment block   located in Sydney’s Wentworth Point. Owned by Billbergia property group, the facility includes a blend of retail outlets, a medical hub, community art space and dining facilities designed to meet the needs of the residential community in Wentworth Point as well as the surrounding communities of Newington and Rhodes.

The newly constructed centre offers three levels of parking comprising 550 bays for visitors to the high-end shopping centre. With a philosophy of creating communities and bearing in mind the expected growth in population over the coming decade, Billbergia’s goal with this parking guidance installation was to ensure the facility looked and performed at its best to ensure an optimum experience for the local population and to maximise the availability of parking bays for their retail tenants and the shopping public.

The chosen solution for Marina Square was the installation of Park Agility’s Parking Guidance Solution (PGS). The system offers signage on every level to advise parking bay availability and various sensor colours illustrate the differing bay types.

Catering to the community’s needs, pram bays are highlighted with a pink/purple sensor to direct busy parents to available parking and for the increasingly environmentally aware, the yellow-painted charge bays for electric vehicles have been matched with a yellow sensor light for clear identification by drivers.

Opened in November 2018, Park Agility was able to complete the project to client specification thanks to our efficient installation method and experienced team. Our regular maintenance program will ensure the system continues to provide optimum traffic flow, assisting customers to find an available car parking bay within minutes of entering the facility saving time, fuel and reducing congestion.

                Chatswood Place

                Chatswood Place

Chatswood Place is a cosmopolitan blend of residential apartments, retail, dining and commercial precinct. Opened in October 2018, it offers premium facilities for residents and visitors including private gardens, al fresco dining and a childcare centre.

With a multi-purpose carpark for use by both residents and retail customers, Park Agility were appointed to install a full parking guidance system with sensors in each of the 230 parking bays to assist with guidance, efficiency and monitoring.

The brief included a requirement for additional functionality, designating a certain number of spaces to be allocated as drop off/pick up bays for the childcare centre between certain periods of time each day. This flexible feature was incorporated using sensor lighting that can be programmed to change colour according to the time of day, clearly indicating which bays are available for short term stays as opposed to extended day parking. Accompanying signage guides users to the parking bays they need according to their activity, maximising efficiency and availability.

The SenseIQ parking management system offers the ability to monitor the use of each bay and delivers real time data to the asset manager in two ways: by changing the colour of the parking bay sensor providing a visual cue and also sending an alert to a specified destination to advise of overstays in designated areas.

The PGS installed at Chatswood Place optimises the experience of customers, parents and residents, enabling them to find an available car parking bay within minutes of entering the facility, ensuring smooth traffic flow and reducing congestion and time delays.

                  Dee Why RSL

                  Dee Why RSL

Dee Why RSL is a large, multi-functional social club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Offering eight restaurants and bars, live music and entertainment plus conference and function space to its 50,000+ membership base and the general public, it is a popular and busy community hub.

Undergoing substantial refurbishment and expansion, the Club enlisted Park Agility to assist with parking guidance in its existing two carparks to provide their members with a convenient parking experience during the works and into the future.

The existing multi-deck carpark has been fitted with sensors in every parking bay, coupled with LED signage both inside and outside the carpark. Internal wayfinding signage at key decision points within the car park displays the number of available parking bays and on each level, efficiently directing drivers to the location of available parking. This reduces circling, emissions and parking inconvenience, allowing members to quickly enter the club’s facilities on arrival.

Upon arrival at the club the external signage alerts patrons to parking availability on each level in the multi-deck carpark and directs traffic to the second, southern carpark located further down the road when necessary.

The southern carpark offers two levels of parking, one of which is designated for the use of the neighbouring childcare centre during the day. When these parking bays are not available for club patrons, parking bay sensor lights reflect this status by showing an amber colour with external precinct signage showing that this area is only available to child care patrons. At designated times each day the bay sensor lights change colour to green, indicating when parking is available for club members with external signage reflecting the change in parking conditions. This smart system allows for optimal use of parking facilities for the neighbouring business, club members and visiting guests whilst efficiently utilising an in-demand club asset.

The Club has received extremely positive feedback from its members and visitors since the installation of the parking guidance system, finding it helpful and convenient when parking. As a part of its on-going expansion plans, Dee Why RSL are building a third carpark for its membership, which Park Agility are engaged to install parking guidance within.

This installation was conducted during club operating hours with Dee Why RSL management providing positive feedback on the way that the project and installation was conducted minimising operational impact on their parking operation. The RSL management have congratulated Park Agility project staff on the installation efficiency and the operational communication process during the project and look forward to the completion of the new car park PGS installation in 2020.

“The team at Park Agility were responsive to all of our needs and put together a PGS design plan that exceeded our expectation. The fact that they were able to install their guidance and signage solution on time and on budget whilst not impacting our patrons’ parking experience and operational aspects of our car park was an unexpected bonus for our facility. Park Agility have helped the club manage limited parking while under construction by assisting with utilisation and customer experience. The final result has been well received by our members and guests with positive feedback all round, and we look forward to completing stage 2 works in 2020.” ~ Marcel Batrac, Project Manager, Dee Why RSL

                    Prahran Square

                    Prahran Square

Prahran Square is a transformation of Stonnington council’s old Cato St at grade car park situated just 5km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD.

As urban parkland, the Square offers open space for recreation, events, festivals and markets for surrounding residents, businesses, shoppers and visitors. The two-level underground carpark offers 500 bays for parking to service Prahran Square events, as well as the nearby Chapel and Greville St shopping precincts.

Park Agility worked closely with the council’s consultants, builders and project management teams, throughout the planning and development phases of the old carpark makeover, advising on the most accurate and cost-effective parking guidance solutions to meet their objectives. Council opted for individual monitoring of each bay, providing accurate parking data that allows customers to save time and emissions using directional wayfinding signage as a guide.

The parking guidance system improves the customer experience in addition to reducing congestion and traffic stress in an area that is busy and close to the CBD. Importantly, this optimises a Council asset for improved yield and rate payer value. Also including accessible and electric car-charging bays, the new carpark at Prahran Square offers a smart, efficient and green solution for the community from a forward-thinking Council.
